[Via Satellite 03-03-2015] ViaSat has purchased EAI Design Services, grafting its expertise in high-speed, low-power secure space-based Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) and Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) microprocessor design into satellite and cybersecurity projects. EAI Design staff is joining ViaSat, with founder Emil Isaakian spearheading the integration of the company’s technology into ViaSat products, systems, and services.
The IP cores and standalone encryption products EAI Design created enable high-speed networking to 100 Gbps. ViaSat anticipates EAI Design’s rapid prototyping expertise and 100 Gbps technology will accelerate the deployment of higher-speed trusted platforms.
“In the past couple of years, we’ve been expanding our cybersecurity portfolio to use the latest networking and cyber sensing technologies, and to support the increasing demand for more bandwidth,” said Jerry Goodwin, VP of secure network systems at ViaSat. “We’ve also been working closely with electric utilities to develop large-scale, distributed cyber sensing architectures to secure the electrical grid and other Machine-to-Machine (M2M) projects.”
