[Via Satellite 03-11-2015] NovelSat released an upgrade for the Satellite Modem Operating System (SMOS) for the NovelSat NS3000 and NS300 satellite modems. The improvement addresses challenges more specific to higher frequencies, such as Ka band, that are more susceptible to attenuation from weather fluctuations.
The “weather-proofing” software upgrade is available Over the Air (OTA). Improvements include an enhanced Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM) Advanced Automatic Uplink Power Control (AUPC) and point-to-multipoint band reuse. The modems also have advanced Quality of Service (QoS) features for IP routing and VLAN applications, and Digital Video Broadcasting-Satellite (DVB-S) with a 5 percent Roll Off Factor (ROF).
