[Via Satellite 10-09-2015] Marlink customer Polarcus, a Dubai-based geophysical services company has extended its global VSAT contract for an additional three years. The renewed agreement includes ongoing provision of voice and data connectivity through Sealink, Marlink’s C-band VSAT solution for Polarcus’ fleet of seismic vessels.

Polarcus and Marlink will also migrate the seismic fleet from a dedicated configuration to a shared non-contended configuration using the new iDirect X7 modem. The iDirect upgrade will enable a Maximum Information Rate (MIR) of 1536/3096 Kbps as a burstable bandwidth increase for greater throughput. Polarcus is also getting a faster link, with an increased Committed Information Rate (CIR) of 512/1536 Kbps as part of the contract extension.

Polarcus’ seismic fleet is considered one of the most environmentally friendly in operation today. The company uses connectivity to support investments in green technology and maintain its environmental profile.
