[Via Satellite 11-30-2015] SkyVision Global Networks, in partnership with ABS, is launching two new video platforms on the ABS 3A satellite to enable Direct-to-Home (DTH) services across Sub-Saharan Africa, including French speaking Africa and South Africa. Using the ABS 3A satellite at 3 degrees west, SkyVision will supply Digital Video Broadcast-Satellite (DVB-S) and Second Generation Digital Video Broadcast-Satellite (DVB-S2) content with a focus on Free-To-Air (FTA) channels and pay-TV markets in Sub-Saharan Africa. The new platforms will support both SD and HD channels in MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 encoding.
SkyVision has more than 10 satellite platforms and a network of high-capacity fiber optic cables available via gateways in Africa, Europe, North America and the Middle East as well as multiple Points of Presence (POPs) in Africa. The company’s contribution to this project consists of its global hybrid system of fiber optic cables to the Internet backbone via ABS 3A, enabling distribution services of special events, news and DTH channels from Asia and Europe to Africa.
