[Via Satellite 05-05-2015] Harris Corporation and ViaSat have moved to increased production of Small Tactical Terminals (STT) after receiving a one-year $10 million follow on contract. The companies will continue to produce the terminals, which provide real-time situational awareness, location, and command and control information to soldiers through a single radio terminal.
Hughes and ViaSat jointly developed the STT to provide these services for soldiers at the tactical edge of a battlefield in a device that can fit space-constrained, mobile-ground and light-aircraft platforms. The terminal combines ViaSat’s Link16 technology, such as the soldier radio waveform, with Harris’ software communications architecture from the Falcon 3 AN/PRC-152(C) multiband handheld radio, enabling two simultaneous radio channels in a significantly smaller chassis. U.S. government approval is required for the STT to be sold internationally. The recent multimillion-dollar contract extension brings the overall contract value for Harris to more than $25 million since 2010.
