[Via Satellite 04-30-2015] In response to the 7.9 magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal on April 25, Thaicom has joined the list of satellite industry companies aiding in the aftermath of the natural disaster. The Thai operator has sent satellite equipment and engineers to aid in reconnecting the region.

Much of the country’s telecommunications infrastructure was destroyed by the earthquake and accompanying aftershocks. Thaicom has deployed a satellite communications network for the affected areas to reestablish critical communications. Several partners, such as the operator’s country representatives, business partners and government agencies both domestic and international, have teamed to provide these emergency resources.

“During crises such as these, satellite is often the only system available for vital communications and this system will provide the first means of communications since the earthquake. We hope it goes some way toward alleviating the suffering and helping with the continued search and rescue efforts, as well as enabling individuals to contact friends and relatives,” said Suphajee Suthumpan, chairman of the executive committee and CEO at Thaicom.
